Team Leader Vehicle Dynamics

Are you interested in being part of the Leadership Group for next year’s project – ER26?

As a team leader you have several key responsibilities in which the majority are centered around your team:
The main focus is ensuring that the team achieves success within its area of expertise, it is also of importance that you ensure the members well-being.

Other Responsibilities include:
Leading and actively participating in two workshops per week.
Participating in a leadership meeting once a week and arranging for any extra meetings with the team if needed. This includes a meeting on monday if you are TL for a technical team.
Participating in the strategic planning for both the team and leadership group throughout the project year.
Collaboration between the different teams amongst team leaders.
Responsibilities within the team include analyzing risks, establishing milestones, assessing progress and ensuring follow-ups.

As the team leader of Vehicle Dynamics you are the link between your team members and the rest of the leadership group. The systems on the car you are responsible for are the suspension, pedalbox, steering, brakes, powertrain, anti roll bar and the simulation creation.

During the year you support your team and guide them in the right direction with the development of all the systems.

To get all the parts the team needs you may need to either outsource some production or get them sponsored, and that will entail you being responsible to communicate with the sponsor team regarding possible sponsors that can produce or supply parts. Additionally you will have to make purchases and plan ahead for what to do during the workshops. You are the leader of the vehicle dynamics team and should strive to keep a good team spirit and a positive attitude. One of your most important responsibilities is to make sure the team is healthy and all members are happy.

For this year the team has focused on reducing the overall weight of the systems but also collecting and analyzing data regarding technical advancements and improvements. The team continuously works with improving the overall handling of the car via the suspension and steering which is a never ending process and there is always room for improvement. This year the team also got the first dynamic simulations of the car to work which will be of great value in the development of future projects.

The most fun part about the role is to have a complete overview of your team’s systems and that you have the opportunity to learn a lot regarding the different systems. Another fun part is seeing the members develop their engineering skills throughout the year. During production it’s very rewarding to see it all unfold, from the first weld to when it’s a rolling chassis and later on racing on track. Then you will see that all parts work as intended and see possible improvements for coming projects.

As the team leader for the vehicle dynamics team you will apart from the general leadership responsibilities also be responsible for hosting a weekly lunch meeting with the team and making sure the members have access to the software needed.

You can expect that being a team leader will be a great experience to have for future endeavours and it’s a very fun experience. I would recommend this role to anyone who would like to challenge themselves to take on responsibility, improve their technical knowledge and social skills.
