Team Leader Cost & Business
Are you interested in being part of the Leadership Group for next year’s project – ER26?
As a team leader you have several key responsibilities in which the majority are centered around your team:
The main focus is ensuring that the team achieves success within its area of expertise, it is also of importance that you ensure the members well-being.
Other Responsibilities include:
Leading and actively participating in two workshops per week.
Participating in a leadership meeting once a week and arranging for any extra meetings with the team if needed. This includes a meeting on monday if you are TL for a technical team.
Participating in the strategic planning for both the team and leadership group throughout the project year.
Collaboration between the different teams amongst team leaders.
Responsibilities within the team include analyzing risks, establishing milestones, assessing progress and ensuring follow-ups.
The Cost & Business team have two core areas of responsibility: Cost & Manufacturing event (C&M) and Business Plan Presentation (BPP). The main goal for the Team Leader of C&B is to help the organisation perform well in these static events at competition by establishing a good collaboration between your team members and the technical teams.
The C&M event includes preparing: a Bill of Material (BOM) for all parts of the car, a presentation of a case assignment, and presenting cost & emission calculations for a particular system. These documents are prepared by C&B with help from engineers in the technical teams and are presented to judges at competition. For the Business Plan Presentation the team should develop a fictive business case around the car and make a pitch to seek investment from investors (similar to the TV show ‘shark tank’). The BPP is a super fun and creative way to work with ideas and develop entrepreneurial skills.
This experience will give you a chance to develop your leadership skills while you collaborate with your team as well as the other team leaders. You will also gain some insight into the other teams’ different responsibilities and activities.
To succeed in this role you should have good communication skills, enjoy helping others and the ability to have an overview to ensure that different parts of the team and their work function together. To achieve a good result on the team’s tasks you will benefit from establishing a good relationship with others in the organisation as well as connecting with people from the university. To improve the current BOM system and beat previous years scores at the static event you will be challenged with gathering relevant competence to your team and encourage a creative environment where good ideas thrive.
