Team Leader Aerodynamics

Are you interested in being part of the Leadership Group for next year’s project – ER26?

As a team leader you have several key responsibilities in which the majority are centered around your team:
The main focus is ensuring that the team achieves success within its area of expertise, it is also of importance that you ensure the members well-being.

Other Responsibilities include:
Leading and actively participating in two workshops per week.
Participating in a leadership meeting once a week and arranging for any extra meetings with the team if needed. This includes a meeting on monday if you are TL for a technical team.
Participating in the strategic planning for both the team and leadership group throughout the project year.
Collaboration between the different teams amongst team leaders.
Responsibilities within the team include analyzing risks, establishing milestones, assessing progress and ensuring follow-ups.

As the Team leader for the Aerodynamics Team you are responsible for all aerodynamic pieces on the car, body panels and manufacturing all carbon fibre parts. The team consists of CFD engineers and Design engineers. As team leader you will have to guide them in their work and set directions for them to work in, as aerodynamic development is a very broad area. You are responsible for contacting and getting sponsors, both material and technical support as well as locations to manufacture our parts at. Additionally you will have to make purchases and plan ahead for what to do in the workshops.

This year we have made big steps forward in terms of aerodynamic efficiency. When it comes to manufacturing we are still limited to only using prepreg carbon fibre and where we can manufacture it. This year we have been using and refining the manufacturing processes developed last year. This year the aero-package went through an evolution of last year’s concepts. We got the Cl-coefficient down from -3.4 (straight line) last year to about -4 (5° yaw this year. One goal for next year could be to look over manufacturing of the aero-package and try other methods without sacrificing performance to reduce production time and quality. There are also many areas where we can improve and extract more downforce, like the diffuser and side aero for example. It would be awesome if we could close the gap to the insane Cl-coefficients some of the top teams are getting!

What is the most fun about being team leader of the Aero team is when parts and results start coming together, both in the design and the manufacturing process. You see the work you have been leading take shape and that is very cool and exciting! I would recommend everyone who is aerodynamically interested and likes to take responsibility to apply for this position.
