Head of Production
Are you interested in being part of the Leadership Group for next year’s project – ER26?
As a team leader you have several key responsibilities in which the majority are centered around your team:
The main focus is ensuring that the team achieves success within its area of expertise, it is also of importance that you ensure the members well-being.
Other Responsibilities include:
Leading and actively participating in two workshops per week.
Participating in a leadership meeting once a week and arranging for any extra meetings with the team if needed. This includes a meeting on monday if you are TL for a technical team.
Participating in the strategic planning for both the team and leadership group throughout the project year.
Collaboration between the different teams amongst team leaders.
Responsibilities within the team include analyzing risks, establishing milestones, assessing progress and ensuring follow-ups.
For this year the Head of Production will also lead a small team of production responsibles, these members are meant to lighten the workload of the HoP. Because the role as Head of Production will have some personnel responsibility the person in the role will also need to have some focus on leadership and managing a team as well as a great sense for manufacturing. As Head of Production, you are responsible for the production of the car and its mechanical components. This includes the following responsibilities.
- Planning the production of the car and prioritising which parts need to be manufactured in what order. This implies working closely with the chief engineer, technical director(s) and technical team leaders to make sure the parts are produced in time for the deadlines.
- Purchasing the required material for production of the parts. This involves having a good understanding of the material library and checking with the teams what material they will need.
- Ordering the required fasteners for the assembly of the car. As for the material, this implies having a good understanding of our stock and talking to the teams about what fasteners they will need for the assembly of the car.
- Purchasing new tools and overhauling the ones we have. This includes having a good understanding of the tools we have and making sure we have the required tools to assemble and build the car.
As Head of Production, you will have a lot of contact with the LiU workshop personnel and will work closely with them. If they have a question regarding a parts production, they will turn to you. You should also bring forward their voice in our design choices, in order to make the manufacturing of our parts as easy and effective as possible. It is also your responsibility to ensure that we give the workshop high quality production documentation such as drawings. You are also responsible for the work we do in their facilities and ensuring that we follow the rules they have set up for us.
Another part of the role is to help out the system engineers when it comes to design choices to adapt for the tools & manufacturing methods we have access to, help out with material choice and generally give advice regarding production of the parts.
As Head of Production, you have the unique opportunity to be involved in every system engineer’s favourite moment, seeing their parts come to life! This role fits you who like turning theory into practice, has practical experience of manufacturing and has an interest in learning & teaching everything related to turning a CAD-model into a real part.
