About the team

The Test Team is an excellent starting point for those looking to make a meaningful contribution to our organisation. Whether you’re new or experienced, this team provides a supportive environment where you can quickly get involved and start making a difference. The systems you will be working on are easy to pick up, giving you plenty of opportunities to develop your skills and grow within the team.

As part of the Test Team, you’ll be responsible for planning and executing tests throughout the year, including an exciting testing phase during the summer. Beyond testing, you’ll manage our key off-car systems—everything from the quick jack and pit stands to the battery cart and lift. Your role will be crucial in developing these systems, performing tests and ensuring our facilities are well-organised and efficient.

This year, our goals are ambitious: we plan to conduct extensive testing on both our older cars and the new ER25, upgrade our facilities with improved storage solutions, and enhance our off-car systems to support our latest developments. Joining the Test Team means becoming a vital part of these efforts, contributing to the ongoing success of our projects.

About the work and responsibilities

The Test Team offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of our vehicle development, with roles that cater to both creative design and hands-on engineering. This spring we mainly seek the role of Test Engineer.

As a Test Engineer, you’ll take the lead in planning and executing tests on both our new and legacy cars. This role is perfect for those who enjoy a mix of strategic thinking and hands-on mechanical work. You’ll get to experience the thrill of seeing the car’s performance improve with each test, whether you’re on campus or at professional testing sites like VTI and Mantorp Park. The satisfaction of fine-tuning a high-performance vehicle and witnessing the results firsthand is what makes testing not just crucial, but incredibly fun. A big focus during the spring is to organise and make improvements to our facilities and a lot of smaller projects that benefit the whole organisation.

As a Test Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Contributing to the broader organisation with diverse and varied projects.
  • Planning and performing tests at various locations, including on campus and testing sites like VTI and Mantorp Park.
  • Engaging in hands-on mechanical work, such as assembling and disassembling car components on both our older cars and the new ER25.
  • Playing a key role in reorganising our facilities to enhance efficiency.

Who are you?

We’re seeking passionate, driven individuals eager to dive into the exciting world of Formula Student. If you love hands-on work, enjoy learning, and want to make a real impact on our team’s success, the Test Team is the perfect fit for you.

Basic qualifications

  • Willingness to Learn: The Test Team is all about growth and innovation. With so many new challenges and systems to master, having an open mindset and a proactive approach to acquiring new skills will set you up for success. Whether you’re tackling complex tests or designing off-car systems, your ability to adapt and learn is key.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaboration isn’t just important—it’s essential. You’ll be working closely with fellow team members both in the test team but also with other teams, from mechanical work to system design. A strong sense of teamwork and the ability to communicate effectively will help you thrive in this dynamic environment.
  • Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication is crucial in the fast-paced environment of the Test Team. Whether you’re sharing your ideas, reporting test results, or coordinating with other teams, your ability to articulate your thoughts clearly will ensure smooth operations.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Whether you’re in the middle of a test or designing a new system, unexpected challenges will arise. Your ability to think critically, troubleshoot issues, and come up with creative solutions will make a big impact on our team’s performance.

Metorious professional and and personal skills/competencies:

  • CAD: Basic knowledge of CAD software (especially CREO) will be a huge asset. You’ll be turning innovative ideas into reality, so your ability to design, develop, and refine projects is key.
  • FEM  (Finite Element Method): Familiarity with FEM for structural analysis is advantageous but not mandatory. This skill will be particularly useful for validating the designs and ensuring the safety and robustness of our systems.
  • Mechanical and practical skills: For those diving into the hands-on work of a Test Engineer, a solid understanding of mechanical systems, along with experience using tools and working on vehicles, will be invaluable. Your mechanical skills will be crucial as you bring the ER25 and other cars to their peak performance.
