CFD Engineer

Expired on: Sep 14, 2020
Project: ER21
Team: Aerodynamics

About the Team

The aerodynamics team of LiU Formula Student is responsible for the design, simulation and manufacturing of all aerodynamic devices. To name a few aerodynamic devices, this includes the front- and rear wing, sidepods, diffuser and more. The design is made in a Computer Aided Design (CAD) program, the simulation is made with the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and material used for the manufacturing of the devices is mainly carbon fibre.

About the Position

As a CFD Engineer in the Aerodynamics team at LiU Formula Student, you will be responsible for the flow simulations of the individual devices and the complete car simulations. During the design phase you will investigate different concepts in order to improve the handling of the car in e.g. cornering. To do so you will need to work closely with the Vehicle Dynamics team to establish targets for aerodynamic loads and distribution of these loads. During the manufacturing phase of the project you are expected to help the manufacturing team to make the aerodynamic devices become a reality.

Basic qualifications

  • General interest in race car aerodynamics
  • Team player who is not afraid to take initiatives
  • “Out of the box” mindset
  • Not afraid to get your hands dirty

Preferred qualifications

  • Masters student that has taken TMMV01, TMMV08 and TMMV07 or TMMV56.
  • If first year of Masters, a proven record of using CFD
  • Race car aerodynamics understanding
  • Previous CAD experience
