COMPETITIONS

Formula Student is an engineering design competition. Starting as a small event with eleven teams in 1979, it is now the world’s biggest product development competition for students. Formula Student has rapidly grown and there are now about 800 teams competing in over fourteen international competitions sanctioned by the organization FSAE all around the world. Our intention is to attend at least two international competitions every year.

The competition is divided into static and dynamic events, totally adding up to a total score of 1000 points for a whole event. The events are further explained in the following sections.

STATIC EVENTS

Business Plan - 75 points

This event is set up like an investment meeting, where the team presents a business idea in which the car brought to competition is to be fictively mass produced. Scoring is based on several factors, including the financial understanding, novelty of the idea and the overall quality of the presentation.

Cost and Manufacturing - 100 points

The team presents the car to several judges who ask team members questions on how parts on the car were manufactured. The better the manufacturing process is well documented and well understood, the more points you will get.

Engineering Design - 150 points

The team presents the car to several judges who ask team members questions on how parts on the car were designed and why. The better answer you can give the judes, the more points you will get.

DYNAMIC EVENTS

Acceleration - 75 points

A straight line acceleration for 75 meters. The car with the fastest time wins.

Skid Pad - 75 points

Steady state cornering abilities are tested by driving in a figure 8. The car with the shortest time to complete the two right turns and two left turns wins.

Autocross - 100 points

A hot lap around a tight cone track. The track width is 3 meters and the lap is approximately 1 km. The one with the fastest time wins and starting order is decided for the Endurance event, with the fastest cars starting last.

Endurance - 325 points

The autocross course is driven for 22 km, with a driver change halfway through. There are several cars on track at the same time. Passing other cars is only allowed under blue flag conditions. The car with the shortest total time wins.

Efficiency - 100 points

Energy consumption is measured in our case the amount of used fuel during the endurance event. The time you finished endurance is taken into account. The fastest car with the least consumed energy wins.
