From LiU Formula Student to Audi Sport and Le Mans

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to interview one of our former chief designers, Viktor Svensson. Today he works with aerodynamics for Audi Sport in Germany. Viktors journey towards motorsport design started at Linköpings University where he studied mechanical engineering.

Alumn - Viktor Svensson

-How is it to work at Audi sport?

Working in a racingteam is very intense, working long hours and having tight schedules. But at the same we have an amazing team spirit where everyone is working towards the ultimate goal, to develop the best cars. I am Together with my colleagues in the aerodynamic team responsible for the body design of the cars as well as the aerodynamic details. My job is mainly to solve flow problems and to increase the performance of the car by evaluating different aerodynamic concepts.

-What is the most important thing you have learned from Formula Student?

That nothing is impossible, but you have to work for it. You can only achieve great results through hard work.

-Have you been able to apply your knowledge from LiU Formula Student at Audi Sport?

I have a huge benefit when it comes to racing and a racing cars anatomy which I learned in LiU Formula Student. But maybe the most vital lessons is the importance of organizing work and understanding that it’s all about working together towards a common goal.

-Why should I, as a student, get involved in Formula Student?

The things you learn and everything you get to experience is just amazing, it also complement the studies in a great was as you get the opportunity to put your knowledge into practice. To experience how a big project works and realizing that you have a great impact on the results is so satisfying. Another thing that you will notice is how the project really is hands on, from the drawing table to the workshop.

-Lastly, do you have any advice for someone that wants to do the same journey as you did from a student association to a very prominent company?

You have to be proactive, interested and work hard. Be able to work both independently and in a team. Never give up, always finish your work! There is not a coincidence that most of the people at Audi Sport have been involved in Formula Student.
